Mixcloud Selections: Happy Jazz Radio Show

So after my first modern Jazz record label special on the Belgian Jazz Cats label, I am off to the neighbouring country of Holland this time and taking a look at the marvellous Criss Cross record label. Founded in 1981 by Gerry Teekens, this record company is still active today, releasing super modern Jazz from the “off the radar” jazz musicians. I am focussing on the 80s vinyl only releases for this mix encompassing Modal, Waltz, Bossa Jazz, 4/4 flyers with plenty of rimshot. The label, with it’s distinctive mustard yellow and white labels still produces the sleeves with the same layout and font as it did when it started. It’s a lovely label, super clean presentation visually and musically. And with Rudy Van Gelder taking the controls in the early days, is it any wonder this labels output still carries through today? Enjoy the mix and thanks for listening. Adrian
